Kelvin

Kelvin is a unit of measurement of temperature.

The freezing/melting point of water is about -273.15 K at a pressure of 1 atmosphere.

The symbol of Kelvin degrees is K.

Kelvin to Celsius conversion

0 degrees Kelvin is equal to -273.15 degrees Celsius:

0 K = -273.15 °C

The temperature T in degrees Celsius (°C) is equal to the temperature T in Kelvin (K) minus 273.15:

T(°C) = T(K) - 273.15

Example

Convert 300 Kelvin to degrees Celsius:

T(°C) = 300K - 273.15 = 26.85 °C

Kelvin to Fahrenheit conversion

The temperature T in degrees Fahrenheit (°F)is equal to the temperature T in Kelvin (K) times 9/5, minus 459.67:

T(°F) = T(K) × 9/5 - 459.67

Example

Convert 300 Kelvin to degrees Fahrenheit:

T(°F) = 300K × 9/5 - 459.67 = 80.33 °F

Kelvin to Rankine conversion

The temperature T in degrees Rankine (°R) is equal to the temperature T in Kelvin (K) times 9/5:

T(°R) = T(K) × 9/5

Example

Convert 300 Kelvin to degrees Rankine:

T(°R) = 300K × 9/5 = 540 °R
